Welcome to the Winelands SPCA website

Our mission is to improve the lives of all animals in this district - through education, spaying and neutering, and finding new homes for unwanted animals. Our area of operation is large and we cannot do the work without the support of the community. There are many ways to assist, by volunteering, by regular donation, by supporting our markets, by assisting with fund raising - just contact us for more information.

Open Hours: Weekdays: 09h00 - 15h30 | Saturdays: Only by appointment | Sundays: closed.
                                          MEDIA STATEMENT

ISSUED ON WEDNESDAY, 20 MARCH 2019 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA) confirms that the Winelands SPCA has been placed under the administration of the NSPCA due to contraventions of the SPCA Act 169 of 1993.

The contraventions relate to the Winelands SPCA operating without the services of a qualified Inspector since July 2018 without taking the necessary action to remedy this failure in order to comply with the provisions of the SPCA Act 169 of 1993.  This has resulted in the inability of the Winelands SPCA to fulfil its core function, which is the prevention of cruelty to animals. Other contraventions include the compliancy of the committee.

It is the duty of the NSPCA, by means of the SPCA Act 169 of 1993, to ensure that our member Societies operate in terms of statutory requirements. Due to the serious nature of the contraventions, the NSPCA Board was therefore obligated to proceed in terms of Section 11 of the SPCA Act 169 of 1993.  The NSPCA Board resolved that some members of the Winelands SPCA Management Committee had to stand down and these persons have been replaced by NSPCA Board appointees.

With effect from Monday, 18 March 2019, the NSPCA Board appointed committee assumed responsibility for the Winelands SPCA and its operations. They will remain under administration until the board advises otherwise.
